The United States does not intend to normalize or improve diplomatic relations with the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, nor does it encourage others to do so, a spokesperson for the United States said. US State Department.
The move was intended to boost countries’ struggling economies and build pressure from Arab states to reenter Syria after it was avoided during the civil war.
The United States has not had a diplomatic presence in Syria since 2012.
