Islamist leader Rached Ghannouchi and a former prime minister are under investigation. Among them is the leader of the Ennahda party, Rached Ghannouchi, along with several members of his family. The charges against Ennahda leaders stem from the alleged involvement of 33 Islamist politicians, including Ghannouchi and Jebali, in the assassination of two socialist MPs in 2013, during Marzouki’s presidency and Jebali’s government.

President Joe Biden has pledged that the US is “prepared to use all elements of its national power” to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. Mr Biden made the declaration with Israel’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid on the second day of his visit there. He also pledged that the US would “work together with our other partners to confront Iran’s aggression and destabilising activities”, including Iran’s use of “terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad”.

Yemen has called for international pressure to compel Houthi militias to fulfill their commitments related to the April 2 truce agreement. Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Abdullah al-Saadi told the UN Security Council that the Yemeni people continue to suffer as a result of the militias’ ongoing war and escalation of violence, causing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.

Iraq on June 10 paid debt owed to Iran for gas and electricity imports, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), transferring $1.6 billion to pay down debt acquired under the previous governments of prime ministers Haidar al-Abadi and Adel Abdul Mahdi. On July 3, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi inaugurated the first Iraqi generator in Maysan province that uses only Iraqi gas from the fields in the province itself.

The Lebanese Ministry of Tourism launched a campaign last month to attract Lebanese people living abroad to visit the country this summer. Lebanon has a diaspora of millions of people in Europe, the Americas and Africa, which may outnumber the population in Lebanon itself. The efforts may be succeeding. Most of the people who use the airport at present are Lebanese, according to the National News Agency.

Saudi Health Minister Fahad Al-Jalajil has inspected hospitals and other health facilities in Makkah and the holy sites to ensure they are up to standard for the pilgrims. There are also 15 outpatient clinics in the hospital, with 550 employees from administrative, technical, and medical departments working around the clock.
